Torah Scroll

Hello everyone!

We hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend.

Today, we’re going to be a looking at some of the activities you can do at home to learn more about Judaism!

Below is an interesting video which gives us a tour of the Jewish sacred building – the Synagogue. It shows us all the important parts of the Synagogue and explains what these represent.

Let’s make a Torah scroll with Julie!

The Torah contains the Five Books of Moses. It is written in Hebrew and is kept in the Ark in each synagogue.

What you will need:

  • Roll of paper (wallpaper will work nicely),
  • 2 sticks,
  • Cardboard,
  • Circular object to trace around,
  • Scissors,
  • Glue,
  • Pens,
  • 2 clothes pegs.

This is a fantastic opportunity to practice our Hebrew writing:

You can copy/trace the Hebrew alphabet or use Google Translate to write your own sentence, translate it into Hebrew and copy it onto your Torah scroll!

Remember: Hebrew writing is written from right to left.

Did you enjoy making your Torah scroll with Julie?

We would love to see some pictures of the Torah scrolls you’ve made and your Hebrew writing! Please send these to your class email address.

Take care,

Hannah, Julie and Emma

Superhero Jelly!

Good morning superheros!

I hope you’re ready for some yummy superhero work today!

For today’s activity you will need the pack that contains cups/silver tray, sweets, biscuits, superheros and jelly! You will need some adult help with this task because the water needs to be hot!

If you don’t want to eat the jelly -try making it in a foil tray or deep bowl and seeing if you can rescue your stretchy superhero from the jelly depths! There are lots of other sensory play ideas you can use jelly for too!

We hope you have lots of fun superheros!

Design and Technology

Now that you have a fantastic design for your bird feeder, it is time to get making!

Use the materials you wrote down on your design to create you bird feeder.

Here are some questions to think about when you’re making it:

Does it look the same as your design?

Have you had to change any part to make it?

Why did you choose to change it?

What do you think of you completed bird feeder?

If you have already made you bird feeder then why not make some bird food to go in it. Here is a really simple recipe you can use to make bird food.

You will need:

Bird seed

A bowl and a spoon for mixing

Cutters (optional)

Leave your lard at room temperature for a few hours to soften it up. Once it is soft you can put it all into the bowl. Add a big scoop of bird seed and get mixing!

Add enough bird seed so it can be seen through the lard. Once mixed you can use your hands to roll it into balls or you can push it into your cutters. Poke a hole in the top with a straw or add in a stick and freeze for a few hours.

Then all that’s left to do is add your string and hang them out for the birds!

We would love to see some photos of your creations and any birds that come visiting!

Geography – Compass directions

Hello everyone!

Today we are going to be pirates and use compass directions to help us find some treasure.

The four main points on the compass are:-

I used these directions to make a treasure map of my garden.

I then used this map to look for treasure I had hidden for my little girl. Watch the video to see who found the treasure before us:

Can you make your own treasure map and use the compass points for the directions?

You could even make your own pirate hat for while your on your treasure hunt.
