Today we are going to learn about Haiku poetry and practice our writing skills. 

What is a Haiku Poem?

 Haiku poetry is traditional in Japan. Each haiku only has 3 lines and the lines follow a pattern of syllables 5 – 7 – 5

You can choose any theme you like for your poem.

You may want to plan by thinking of some key words. 

I have used a Summer theme for my Haiku poem.

I thought of some key words that remind me of Summer to help me when planning: 

Remember to count the syllables in each line to check the pattern matches the format.

5 – 7 – 5

My example: 

The ocean is cold

The sun blazing down on me

Let’s go for ice-cream.
