The app of the week this week is Halftone and Halftone 2. This app is a comic book creator. Children can use their own images or select one from the libary.
This app can be used to retell stories or create new ones. Sound and music can be added. A useful app for all ages.

mage to go direct to the Toca website, which has the full range of apps and more about the idea behind developing Toca apps for children. These apps cover a variety of curriculum areas. Use the Toca shop app to develop money and life skills. The Toca Tea Party app develops organisation skills along with counting and naming.
Toca School lets children visit different areas of a school like the dinning hall and classrooms, during each visit children have to complete various tasks. Well worth taking a look.

This app is based on the original Bee-Bot classroom-friendly floor robot.
Using the same keypad as the in school floor robot version, the aim is for children to solve various challenges by programming a cartoon bee to move around different levels through sequences of forwards, backwards, left and right 90 degree turns. Whereas the physical Bee-Bot requires actual floor space, the Bee-Bot app lets children work either individually or in a group on iPad.
The app has three levels of play mode: The flower mode with 12 levels, the Sheep Herding mode with 3 levels and the Egg collecting mode with 3 levels. Each level has a scoring system of up to 3 stars depending on how successful you are in solving the problem in the time given.
This is a great app to teach basic level entry coding.

This week we have a set of apps that we hope you will find useful. This is a set of eight story books. Each book has a read to me, a read by myself and a story creator section. The books use a narrator with an English accent. There are opportunities for all parts of the books to be discussed with children e.g The illustrator, author and narrator. Book Creator is open-ended, creative and cross curriculum, and is one of the most popular iPad apps for teachers to use with the children.
Book Creator can be used in any subject area, with any age, from 4 years and up. Teaching resources can be made, or hand the iPad to the children for them to create:
Interactive stories
Digital portfolios
Research journals
Poetry books
The list is endless, with some key features like adding audio, making a comic style book and being able to change the colour of the page and font to suit our children with a SpLD.

The app of the week for the W/C 27th Feb is. Popplet.
The Popplet App is great for all areas of learning. It is a mind map app but really simple to use so children can create maps in minutes. it can be used for revision, building self esteem, note taking, creating topic maps and many more. The free version of this app lets you see if this app is what you are looking for before buying the full version. In the full version you can save as many maps as you like. There is also a web site linked to this app. Click the app Icon to go straight to their website.

Although this is an app it is actually a simple mathematical keyboard. once downloaded it can be found by pressing the globe on the IPad keyboard. This is a great for writing equations as it has the × ÷ = π symbols, no need to keep switching from letters to numbers to symbols it’s all on the one keyboard. The basic app is free!
