In school we work hard to help the children when they are feeling a whole range of emotions. We provide positive strategies to help. Here are a few ways that children can express their emotions in a safe and positive manner.
- Find a safe place – this could have cushions, blankets, favourite toys or books.
2. Listen to music.
3. Count to 10/100 or practise breathing.
You could blow away your troubles using dandelions:
or practise your mindfulness breathing with Mel:
4. Mindfulness colouring pages are a great way to relax. Here are some examples:
5. Get physical – for example you could practise yoga, go running, cycling or out for a walk.
These are some useful websites:
www.cosmickids.com for yoga.
www.thedailymile.co.uk run at home for 15 minutes a day
Going for a walk is also one of the best ways to feel calm, exercise and enjoy nature. Try using this outdoor daily walk challenge the next time you go out for a walk.
I have had lots of fun with my own children out walking near where we live. We have spotted lots of signs of Spring (tadpoles, ducklings and lots of pretty flowers) and we have also spotted man-made gestures to thank the NHS. See what you can spot the next time you go out on a walk.
Stay safe and stay positive.
